Apple Music Sing, Available on Older Apple TVs via AirPlay!
Apple Music Sing, I Was Excited, but My Apple TV Doesn't Support It?
Apple Music's newly introduced karaoke feature, Apple Music Sing! This feature, which allows you to adjust vocal volume and sing along to lyrics, is perfect for home parties or personal relaxation time. But there was a problem. I found out that my Apple TV 4K 2021 model does not support this feature.
While wondering, "Do I need to buy the latest Apple TV 4K to use this?", I tried activating the Sing feature in Apple Music on my iPhone and connecting it to my Apple TV via AirPlay. The result? Surprisingly, both the audio and the lyrics worked perfectly!
Using Apple Music Sing with AirPlay
Here's a summary of what I confirmed during the test process:
- Audio: If you play a vocal-removed track on your iPhone and transmit it to your Apple TV via AirPlay, the vocal-removed track will also play on the Apple TV.
- Lyrics Display: The real-time lyrics are displayed normally on the Apple Music interface of the Apple TV. They scroll line by line and operate perfectly in time, like a karaoke machine.
- Syllable-Based Highlighting: In further testing, I confirmed that the syllable-based highlighting feature, which makes the lyrics follow along like in a karaoke, worked well even with Korean songs. This made it much easier to sing along to the lyrics.
Advantages of Using AirPlay
The advantages of AirPlay that I experienced in this test are as follows:
- Overcoming Device Limitations: You can use Apple Music Sing even on Apple TV models that are not officially supported.
- Easy Setup: Activate Apple Music Sing on your iPhone and press the AirPlay button, and you're done!
- Utilizing Multimedia Devices: You can sing while looking at the lyrics on the large screen of the Apple TV, which is much more immersive. You can also enjoy richer sound by connecting to a HomePod or soundbar.

In Conclusion...
Although Apple Music Sing was limited to the latest Apple TV models, it was definitely enjoyable on older Apple TVs using AirPlay. In particular, I was really satisfied that the feature to follow the lyrics syllable-by-syllable worked normally. If you want to create a simple karaoke atmosphere at a year-end home party or a family gathering, I highly recommend this method.
