I recently visited Goryeo Jokbal Bossam, which I stumbled upon while looking for a lunch menu near Seoul City Hall. Located in the basement, I hesitated at first, but the savory smell wafting from the entrance and the suddenly lengthening lunch line caught my attention. It was already bustling with many office workers, and looking at the menu, I decided to order the most popular bossam set.

The bossam set comes with warm rice, tenderly boiled pork, and the restaurant's pride, kimchi. The kimchi was perfectly spicy and refreshing, and the combination with the pork was truly excellent. A bowl of dwenjang-guk (soybean paste soup) also came with the set, and its salty and savory taste went well with the rice. Having such a satisfying experience for lunch, the value for money was also great.

I visited this place again with friends in the evening. This time, we decided to enjoy bossam and soju to relieve the fatigue of the day. The atmosphere was even more lively in the evening. The small space was filled with people, and although it was a bit noisy, it felt more welcoming.

The bossam was more generous in quantity than what was served at lunchtime, and the kimchi was also provided in a more generous portion. Eating it with a shot of soju, the savory flavor of the meat and the spiciness of the kimchi blended perfectly in my mouth. The kimchi, in particular, had a presence that was more than just an accompaniment to the meat. Eating and chatting with friends, the plates were emptied, and several bottles of soju were finished.

It's Okay If It's Cramped and Noisy

The downsides of this place would be the cramped space and the somewhat noisy atmosphere. However, when faced with delicious food, those shortcomings are quickly forgotten. On the contrary, this atmosphere gave a feeling of an old-fashioned pojangmacha (street food stall), which I found even more welcoming.

If you like the combination of kimchi and meat, this place is definitely worth a visit. For lunch, enjoy the set meal with warm rice, and in the evening, end your day with bossam and a shot of soju – it's the perfect place. I would love to visit again next time!
